More than 500 Slow Food Vancouver cyclists and other visitors stopped by the UBC Dairy Centre on July 27, 2013.
The UBC Dairy Education and Research Centre, a world-class dairy cattle research facility and a modern working dairy farm, has been a stop on the 25-km self-guided cycle tour for a number of years. Visitors learned about the Centre’s internationally renowned research and education programs as well as BC’s dairy industry.
The Centre is currently fundraising for an on-site 32-bed residence which will provide residential environment for researchers and students who are doing innovative work of benefit to the dairy industry.
“The residence will allow us to increase our research productivity by having students and visiting scientists at the Centre 24/7,” said Jim Thompson, Director, the UBC Dairy Education and Research Centre. “An on-site residence will also save students considerable travel time and will give them the added experience of living in an international campus-like environment while being able to conduct research round the clock.”
Construction of the residence is expected to begin in early 2014.
