Feed Intake Research Facility

Some special features of the Feed Intake Research Facility:

  • This dairy cattle research facility is unique in North America
  • The 2,230 m² building is for animals older than 15 months
  • It contains 10 pens with 12 free-stalls each
  • Covered convenient access is provided to the adjacent milk parlour
  • Five pens are provided with INSENTEC equipment to continuously measure feed intake by individual group-housed animals
  • 10 pens are provided with INSENTEC equipment to continuously measure water intake by individual group-housed animals
  • Overhead video cameras continuously monitor individual animal or group behaviour
  • Data collected by the equipment are automatically transferred to the server in the Main Building
