The UBC Dairy Education and Research Centre: Tackling environmental challenges through dairy waste recovery and recycling

Panel discussion featuring:

  • Jim Thompson, Director of the UBC Dairy Education and Research Centre
  • Victor Lo, Member of the Water Pollution and Waste Management Group, UBC Civil Engineering
  • Nelson Dinn, Manager of the UBC Dairy Education and Research Centre

Friday January 16, 3:00-4:00 pm

Jim Thompson will provide an overview of the Dairy Education and Research Centre in Agassiz, BC and discuss relevant results of a recent study that developed the BC On-Farm Anaerobic Benchmark. Victor Lo will introduce the technology his group is developing for the recovery of phosphorus in the form of slow-release fertilizer, called struvite, from dairy cattle manure. Nelson Dinn will discuss recent work on the recovery and reuse of sand for bedding dairy cattle.
