Community

Community

We have developed deep and abiding connections with our B.C. industry partners and local neighbours since our inception. Our working study farm is a collaborative ecosystem where cutting-edge science drives sustainable new solutions for our working community.

Located in the Fraser Valley, in the heart of BC’s dairy industry, the Dairy Centre offers opportunities for community involvement, including: educational tours for local schools, information sessions with the dairy industry, work experience for Canadian and international students, and more.

Communicating our Research

Our scientists share their pioneering research at industry and academic meetings in Canada and around the world. They also write articles for scholarly publications as well as mainstream periodicals. We share the applied aspects of our journal articles through an online mailing service called Research Reports. There is no charge for these reports and they help us communicate our work to the industry and wider community. View our past research reports here.

Community Outreach

As a working dairy farm, we supply fresh milk to our community. And we have a dynamic track record of hosting public tours that showcase Canada’s advanced dairy industry, its unrivalled standards of cattle wellbeing and its array of high-quality milk products. In addition, we have hosted school groups and university classes as part of our commitment to outreach initiatives.

For those interested in visiting the centre, please contact our Research Manager, Julia Lomb at julia.lomb@ubc.ca.

Industry Partnerships

Our success is rooted in establishing strong collaborative relationships, beginning with AAFC but also anchored in the local community and the dairy farmers who our research serves.

On behalf of the scientists working at the Centre, we also thank our numerous funders such as the Natural Sciences and Engineering Research Council of Canada and industrial partners such as the British Columbia Dairy Association, Dairy Farmers of Canada, and the other dairy farmer organizations across Canada for over 25 years of collaboration.

We are committed to sharing our knowledge and helping dairy producers with real-world solutions. This ranges from training high school work-study students to hosting industry workshops, seminars and short courses.
