Students
The Dairy Centre is proud to provide a research environment that inspires students to engage in dairy research; our on-site residences allow students from British Columbia, across Canada and also internationally, to gain research skills related to dairy. By living directly at the Dairy Centre, our students are able to participate in the day-to-day activities of a working farm and also interact with the local dairy farming community providing an enriched learning environment.
Graduate Students
With a two-decade record of training and inspiring the next generation of industry leaders and scientists, the Dairy Centre offers graduates outstanding opportunities to live and learn alongside a working dairy operation. Our state-of-the-art equipment and facilities––plus an onsite herd of 500 cattle––enable our MSc and PhD students to develop innovative solutions to pressing dairy sector challenges.
Our purpose-built Agassiz site is a welcoming, campus-like setting where graduate students from Canada and around the world connect with a collaborative team of faculty, staff and visiting academics. This promotes an interdisciplinary exchange of knowledge where graduates and their research thrive.

Undergraduate Students
Undergraduate students at the Dairy Centre are immersed in the many aspects of dairy science while also exposed to day-to-day farming operations. Work experience is provided through appointments done in conjunction with faculty members through work learn, directed studies, practicum courses, undergraduate thesis, and NSERC undergraduate positions.
The Dairy Centre also provides co-op positions directly; for these positions students are encouraged to contact the Dairy Education and Research Centre Animal Health, Welfare and Research Manager, Julia Lomb (julia.lomb@ubc.ca).
Visiting Scholars
The Centre also hosts a myriad of visiting scholars from different parts of the globe each year. International graduate and undergraduate visitors visits are facilitated by the UBC Visiting International Research Student Office.

Student Housing
Most students engaged in research at the UBC Dairy Education and Research facility are housed onsite in our purpose-built accommodation, enjoying close proximity to their study animals and equipment. This fosters a rich, campus-like environment where students and scientists from Canada and around the world work and share knowledge.
As a student, you will live alongside a working dairy operation in the heart of B.C. farming country. In 2015, we opened a spacious, purpose-built accommodation complex, comprising private bedrooms, kitchen facilities and a communal area. This well-utilized communal space hosts seminars, debates and social events––nurturing a collaborative learning approach where ideas and insights are freely shared and discussed.
Living in Agassiz also provides spectacular quality-of-life advantages right on your doorstep. The region’s mountain-framed setting is famous for its breathtaking outdoor experiences, including hiking, biking, swimming, fishing, boating and more.
